Meet The Team
Braedon Methvin
Braedon Methvin runs for Mississippi College. He has been coaching since 2021. He loved his high school running career. It was so fun and successful because he had a coach that pointed him in the right direction, he genuinely cared about Braedon's well-being and performance. He was able to grow so much as a runner because of his coach. He became a coach because he believes that every aspiring runner should have the same type of mentorship that his coach gave him, and wants to help as many people as possible.
Wyatt Whipp
Wyatt Whipp runs for Mississippi College. His senior year of high school he and his team won the state championship in track. He enjoyed running in high school and continued to run in college because of the coaches he had. He decided to start coaching because of what running did for him in high school. Cross country really helped him grow as a runner and a person. He wants to spread the love and knowledge of running through coaching.
Christian Balcer
Christain Balcer runs for Mississippi College. He ran for East Central High School (Hurley, MS). He enjoyed running and had success from it in high school, although he felt like something was missing. He wanted a real team and family, and he found that at Mississippi College. As a strong Christian, he knows that it is important to fellowship together and love like Jesus. He also wanted to coach because he wants to pursue a career as a high school science teacher and cross country and track coach. As a coach, he wants to be able to make a runner better in their event but also make them a better person that shows the light of God through their actions.
Baxter Friedman
Baxter Friedman runs for Mississippi College and ran at Fairhope High School (Fairhope, AL) and has loved to run ever since he was young. He started competing in middle school to cross train for basketball but decided to go all in after freshman year in high school. He loves running because the culture is so positive and highly competitive and there is so much you can learn about it. He started coaching because he wants to spread his knowledge of running and the word of God through coaching and understands that great cross country and track coaches are hard to find.
Wesley Gibbs
Wes never thought he would want to coach until he got into college, that was he got an opportunity to be alongside a great coaching staff. Understand that running is much more important than just getting in reps is crucial. In a race, your mind can go from thinking you might run the world record, to 100 meters later thinking you are going to drop out of the race. As much as running is about building fitness physically, its just as important mentally. I want to help the common high-school athlete be great at both aspects. I also want to celebrate with them when they PR, but also be there when they are having a tough day on the track. Catering both of those emotions can't be stressed enough when seeking greatness. In high school I ran the 800m and mostly the 1600m. I ran 1:55 in the 800m and 4:33 in the 1600m. The biggest struggle was racing myself , my mind was always my biggest obstacle. Now in college, I run the 400m and the 800m and that is what I will coaching. It takes a different breed of athletes to be a middle distance runner, and I plan to make it as fun as possible.
